Comeback Medvedev Claims First Championship in Nearly 30 Months

Nineteen of Medvedev's twenty-one victories have been achieved on hardcourt

A comeback Medvedev won his maiden title for 882 days with a win over opponent Moutet in the competition final.

The athlete, a ex- number one, has endured a torrid period, managing just a single victory at the Grand Slams and undergoing a meltdown at the American major.

His unpredictability on the tennis tour - and issues with his serving in particular - caused him dropping out of the world's top 10 and eventually separating with long-time coach Gilles Cervara.

Currently training with Johansson and Rohan Goetzke, the tennis star has consistently advanced in the last few weeks - climaxing in a tightly fought competitive win over opponent Moutet.

This marks the player's first title since the Rome competition and first on a hardcourt since March of 2023.

Victory also signifies the Russian has won 21 titles at 21 different events.

"It's the first time I am participating in a event with my two daughters simultaneously, so to win a title is particularly special," said world number 14 Daniil Medvedev.

"This championship is in tribute of my second daughter my daughter, because the first title I achieved when my older daughter my daughter was born was for her."

The tennis star, the 2021 US Open champion, had failed in his last six title deciders, including in the German tournament previously this season.

The player's retrieving play style and regular outbursts on the tennis court had prompted observers to wonder if his capacity to play at the highest level was finished.

However the player has made changes in recent weeks, attempting to approach the net and play assertively, backed up by an improved service.

He recovered from a deficit in the opening set against the tricky Frenchman, winning 4 of the last five points to go ahead.

Both players traded service breaks in the following set before the Frenchman, bidding for his initial professional title, gained dominance to create a decider.

The opponent defended four initial opportunities in a competitive third set before the Russian broke to that score to close out the victory.

Fittingly, the winner secured victory with a point at the net, with the Frenchman incapable to manage a shot after two hours and 38 minutes.
